Board of Ophthalmology.
(TIME) à l'Université Temple, à Philadelphie.
Dr. Foster was born in the United States but has lived in numerous countries (Germany, Tanzania, and the island of Guam) as well as in numerous US states.
He attended the California Institute of Technology and graduated with
honors in Physics. He then went on to graduate school at Harvard
University, where he earned both a AM and a PhD in Physics, and
focused his efforts upon Biological Physics.
During graduate school, he befriended a number of scientists at
Harvard Medical School and became interested in the application of
physics to medicine. After a great deal of exploration and soul
searching, he decided to attend medical school, to broaden and deepen
his knowledge of human biology and also to enjoy the opportunity to
serve others with his knowledge.
Dr Foster attended Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC.
While a medical student, Dr. Foster spent considerable time in the
Duke Ophthalmology Department, and became convinced that
Ophthalmology, and particularly retina, was the place where he could
combine his two loves: medicine and physics.
Dr. Foster completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Barnes-Jewish
Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis.
He then underwent fellowship training in diseases and surgery of the
retina & vitreous at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, ULCA. He was
recruited to Houston by an offer of a faculty position in Physics at
the University of Houston as well as a joint position in vitreoretinal
surgery in the practice of Garcia & Associates. He benefited from
spending additional time under Charles A. Garcia, MD, the Bernice
Weingarten Chair at the University of Texas, training in medical and
surgical retina at the St. Joseph Hospital Retinal Vascular Center
before establishing his own practice. Dr. Foster is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of
Canada. Recognized for his knowledge, he also examines candidates and
develops questions for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He enjoys
taking care of patients and helping them improve their visual health.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Foster does research to improve
outcomes for patients with different retinal diseases. His work spans
the range from the application of high-tech polymeric compounds to the
repair of retinal detachments to computational modeling of fluid flow
in the eye during different diseases and treatments. As a part of his
ongoing research, Dr Foster is Professor of Bioengineering and a
Member of the Temple Institute for Regenerative Medicine and
Engineering (TIME) at Temple University, in Philadelphia.
Dr. Foster is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a
